hi there,
Just wondering if anyone has had any luck growing aubgines or chillis in Ireland?
I tried Firecracker and a turkish variety last year in a plastic greenhouse and both were a total washout.
This year I'm trying Thai Dragon, Praire Fire and a mix of habanero/scotch bonnet. Hoping for more success and also trying aubergines from seed. I will have both in a small 6x4 plastic greenhouse.
Any tips from people who have grown aubergines/chillis very welcome! |

Hi
I love growing chillies and last year was also a failure, I think it was due to the weather, not enough sunshine. My first attempt at aubergines was also a failure!
I used to grow chillies on my kitchen window sill (indoors), south facing, with great success. I'll be trying the chillies again this summer in the polytunnel again, and the aubergines.
Good luck with it, lets hope for sunshine _________________ Living the good life on our rural Irish smallholding. Follow the learning curve on our interactive blogsite at www.sallygardens.typepad.com |

Hi Rebecca,
I tried some chillis indoor as well last year and they were even worse than the ones in the GH...
Fingers crossed we will get better weather . Good luck with yours! |

Hi,
I tried aubergines, and the fruit came on and then it became very moldy and they kind of disintegrated, chilies no luck either, although my sweet peppers did very well, i think a lot of heat is required, so tunnel is a must |

| I grew chillies for 3 years in an office window. Window was a heat/sun trap to Chilies grew well. I don't grow them now, but would thing that weather was too cloudy for them last year - ie tomatoes I grew last year were very slow to ripen. One thing about chillies is if you want them hot, stress the plant by over/under watering. After the flowers have set, feed the chillie plants tomatoe plant food |
