Hi I planted alot of hornbeam bare root hedging at Easter -size 60-90cm and alot of them are showing buds or flowering already.
question is I know some recommend triming back a 1/3 at planting and others sat after first year to encourage bushy growth at bottom.
should I wait until after summer to prune the trees or should I do it now when they are buding/flowering?
thanks

Their sap is moving now so you could damage them by pruning. Leave topping them until they loose leaves completly in winter.

In your case a 1/3 in winter will do. _________________ ______________________________
