Attack on my strawberries!!!!

I have a healthy crop of strawberries ripening at the moment. However when I went to pick a real nice fat one,it was eaten from underneath halfway. This I have found on about 4 more nice red ones and I dont know how to stop it or more to the point what is doing it. It isnt mice,birds or slugs of that I am sure so please help me stop this cos its killing me inside throwing them away.. HELP HELP please!!!!!! Crying or Very sad

How do you know this for sure. I bet you anything it is slugs. Go out tonight around 12 or one with a torch and I bet you will catch them in the act.

9 times out of 10 slugs will be the attackers of your strawberries.
If so, have a look here.....Irish garden pests, problems with slugs and snails.

You can also post a pic of the nibbled strawberries, so that we can see if it looks like slug damage.

i know it isnt slugs cos i put a barrier of pellets around where they are planted and next day another berry was eaten... i suppose i could take a photo......!!!

You know that slugs can live in the soil and do no necessarily have to travel across the barrier to your strawberries. They could even be living in the midst or beneath the strawberry plant foliage. Sometimes you will also get a small slug which makes it across the pellets injured but take a bite or two from the berries before dieing. It can be hard to see the dead small slugs.
Post a pic if you can showing the damage and another showing the barrier of pellets and I can tell you more. Maybe I will be telling you that it was slugs getting in and out on rocket packs. Laughing

well i used plastic forks and raised the berries up of the ground and they seem to be ok. but now the leaves on the plants are going brown and dying and i just dont know what wants to harm my plants....... Crying or Very sad !! but the berries are doing much better since they are off the ground.

Update on my strawberries.

I started growing strawberries last year and potted up all the runners they had and they survived the harsh weather here in the West. I was given an abundance of fruit this year, big fat juicy ones and they survived the attack the last few weeks, phew!!! I am just very happy with my crop and though I dont eat the fruit I get great satisfaction when I am told how nice they were from the people I give them too.. Just wanted to let you know they are over the attack and thriving Very Happy

Vine weevil attack the roots of strawberry which would cause the brown leaves. Have a dig in the soil around the plants roots and see is there any white maggoty grubs. I don't think they would ever eat the fruits though.
