| Hi Guys, new to all this and was wondering how long should it take for heads to form on 'red' cabbage. I got them as plants from a garden centre about 5 weeks ago and although they have come on since planting out, they are very leafy with no sign of a head. Same story with cauliflower plants which seem to be falling over ( especially since the winds over the weekend, should I support with stakes ). |

Gardening is a great teacher of patience, I learned that each year I sow veg seeds. some time I feel like giving some of the young plants a boot to get them going and to my plate quicker. Wait and I am sure the cabbage will form heads shortly, provided they are a variety which is supposed to form a head in the first place. What variety caoimhin?
Your cauliflower plants which seem to be falling over can have a small bit of soil mounded around the lower stem to prevent the plants uprooting and coming free. these will strengthen up shortly too. Have you provide any shelter around your veg patch? _________________ ______________________________

| Thanks for the reply. The shelter wouldn't be great. Its something I'll have to work on. Not sure what variety the red cabbage is though the picture on the label suggested a head. |
