Lettuce, Why cant i grow lettuce this year?

I have tried I think 3 times now to grow lettuce this year. First lot took well but we had a major downpour and it was destroyed. Second lot havent bothered to show at all. I changed the sil, made sure the fishbox had ample drainage but nuthn, nuthn at all. I planted some in a seed tray and got 4. Why cant i grow lettuce this year? My Dad planted it in the veg patch, nuthn. Is it a bad year or am I cursed? I grew loads last year.

Only guessing, but I suspect the weather is to blame....we have had awful results with our lettuce too....have only cut two smallish heads so far.

this year was in the fish box and last year was in the ground. this year is just not happening but i cant complain cos for the first time ever my tomatoes have gone red on the vine and that has never happened to me before, ever!!!!!!
