Afternoon everyone ... Introducing myself ... I am a 49 yr old Canadian mother of two grown darling children ... who are leaving the nest ... that being said I find myself all of the sudden with way too much time on my hands ... I am very new to the wonderful world of gardening ... this past summer i researched and built three container gardens (fruits and vetables)... with the help of my local co-op I had great luck with how they grew and found it very satisfying to watch and nurture ... now that summer is over and winter is on its way I'm finding i'm missing my daily routine with the little gardens ...
I've just built a beautiful new home and starting to research houseplants ... I love plants but haven't had any for many many years ... I'm hoping to find what will thrive in my house ... my son gave me two beautiful houseplants and i don't even know what they are ... but i am so interested in educating myself and adding to my collection ... |

Hi Verge, GPI
My box gardens grew strawberries, Rhubarb (next year we'll eat these) it must be the fertilizer i bought ... WOW these plants grew more than I expected ... tomatoes, cucumbers, green and yellow beans, parsley and red peppers ... YUM ! I didn't get to eat the red peppers, the squirrles got them first ... It was just so fun picking fresh veggies for dinner ... Cooking is probably my biggest passion ... Can't wait for winter to pass and get back to it !
GPI this type of forum is new to me and i have no clue as how to post a pic, i didn't think i could unless i posted a website its on ? maybe i read that wrong ... i'll look into that again ... would love to post that for you |

Hi again GPI ... I think i have it ... i'll try ... http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p202/Valeri_04/WhatsThis.jpg
http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p202/Valeri_04/Plant1.jpg
theres a couple pics ... I should tell you what i've been told to do, not sure its great advise but i did it ... My sister in law was telling me just how gorgeous her mothers plants were .. and what she used to feed them was about a dozen cooked egg shells mixed with some coal and then add a quart of water ... my son gave me this green plant ... it was just ok, growing slowly and then i tried the mixture (eggs & coal) and all the sudden i get these things that popped out ... looked like little sticks with seeds on it ... two weeks later they have these green beans kinda ... and this week they have turned red ... what are they? is it anything i can replant ? its not a flower ... what would you feed a plant like this and how often ?
any advise would be appreciated ... also what do you think of the coal and egg mix ...
