Solidago hybrida “Golden Dwarf” facts and information.
Adding a cottage feel, this frost hardy perennial is ideal for use as a front of border plant in both herbaceous and mixed borders.
Unlike older varieties of golden rod, this Solidago only grows to 30cm (1ft) and requires no staking.
Green lance shaped leaves are topped by frothy yellow flower plumes from July to September, ensuring late summer colour.
These flower heads are ideal for use as cut flowers and will last over a week indoors.
When flowering is finished in autumn, the plant is usually pruned right down, this is also the time to carry out division should you require further plantings.
Solidago hails from the prairies of North America; because of this, it prefers a free draining, somewhat infertile soil. Yes indeed, finally a plant for those of you with hungry soils.
Light wise, a position in full sun to partial shade is ideal. If you really want this plant to look the part in your garden, try teaming it with some perennial daisies for that wild prairie feel.
