Hi All,

A friend of mine purchased some tulip bulbs late last year from a shop in the town. Unbeknown to her these tulips were not the conventional type that we normally see. They had multi flower heads on them. I counted ten, perfectly formed cream coloured specimens. I haven’t seen tulips like these before, are they a new variety or have they been around a while?

Just answering my own question here.

I found out the bulbs were bought in Lidl. They are quite common.

"Many of the smaller alpine type of tulips come like that, in a variety of colours, and some have very pretty leaves as well. There is a type of tiny 'waterlily' tulip, about 4" high which is multi headed - they are easily found in bulb catalogues in the autumn. The species tulips, such as 'tarda' and 'turkestanica' all come with small multiheaded flower stems, they are perennial as well, and spread about, albeit very slowly."

There you go. And I thought I was on to something!!
