National Gardens Exhibition Centre County Wicklow

I was down at the National Garden Exhibition Centre in County Wicklow this weekend to get some design inspiration. It has been ten years since my last visit and existing gardens have flourished and new gardens have been added.

Without wanting to sound too daft, what is a moon gate? Is it the gateway to the other part of the garden? Please let me know!

Looks very interesting with a good variety of styles.

How high are the "moon gates" ? Can you just walk through them or do you have to stoop down? They are a nice feature.

Do you find anything that inspired you inishindie?

Hi

Here is the Moon Gate from the other side. It is a lot less intrusive and a bit more flowing.

I was inspired. I tend to go for more architectural gardens and the nautical garden was interesting. The cages are made from galvanided steel and the stones were chosen especially for the job. We usually see this sort of cage holding river banks together or on motorways holding up embankments. I liked it .

I also like contrasting materials, soft grasses with hard materials. It can be a bit overused but when its done well it makes for a very pleasing,easily maintained garden.

I also enjoy a bit of humour!!

Thanks for the information abou the Gabion baskets. I was talking to a bloke who was working in Outhaus next to the Exhibition centre, most of thier stone that they sell come in a Gabion pack. He did tell me the name of the supplier but I was looking up Pie and Phy on Google!

I believe you can buy the baskets and fill it with you own stone, it would be a good way to introduce the colours & stone from a particular area.
