I was out in a town in south west France last autumn, when I came across a street tree with creamy white berries. I took a berry home with me and now I have 3 small tree-lets with leaves as in the photo. Please note that these are plants only about 20cm high so the leaves may be immature. Does anyone know what this tree is, please?

Hope the link works this time - thanks

Hello there, dinky cottage.
Your image link does not seem to be complete, because of this it will not display.
I see you have a fototime account, so I presume you could use the following instructions that I found on the site.
Once you have your photos and videos uploaded to your FotoTime account, create a link to these photos and post this link in your forum message. To obtain a link of the photos and videos that you want to use in the forums, login to your FotoTime account, and click the Share Pictures link on the left. Next, select the Create Link to Pictures option to generate a URL. Next, choose whether you want to create a link to all of your albums, a subset of albums or a link to an individual picture. When finished click the Generate button and a link to your photos and videos will be generated. Simply, copy and paste this link into your forum message.
Try, if you can not to post the images too large, so that all the members in dialup internet world will be able to view them as well.
Let me know if you need any help posting the pics.
Edit.... Your link works now dinkycottage.
I have taken the liberty of supplying the images below as well.

It looks to me to be a form of Actaea. this is usually a perennial with white berries. It is noted for being poisonous in fruit (red or white) and a skin irritant. It is sometimes known as baneberry.
dinkycottage have you got any pics of the berries so we can shed more light on the topic. |

| I don't have a photo of the parent or the berry, I'm afraid. The berry looks a little like Sorbus kashmeriana, but the leaf is wrong - also, the parent is definitely a tree, with a single trunk, so I don't think it could be an Actaea. But thanks for your input, 'cooler'. |
