COMPOSTING & WILDLIFE GARDENING
INFORMATION DAY
COMPOST DOCTOR 1PM – 4PM Saturday 24th November 2007 Courtyard Lifestyle Centre Ltd, Newtowncunningham
A “Compost Doctor” will be available on Saturday 24th November from 1pm – 4pm in the Courtyard Lifestyle Centre Ltd, Newtowncunningham to answer any questions you might have on composting, setting up a wormery or wildlife gardening. This information day is being organised by Donegal County Council in association with The Courtyard Lifestyle Centre Ltd, Newtowncunningham and the IPCC (Irish Peatland Conservation Council).
Home composting, is a fantastic way of diverting organic waste from your ordinary refuse bin and converting it into a valuable fertiliser called compost. Approximately 1/3 of all your household waste including fruit, vegetable peelings, tea bags and shredded paper can be composted using a home compost unit or a compost heap. This is also a great time of year to turn your garden waste such as shrub trimmings and leaves into compost or leaf mould. Ms. Nuala Madigan from the Irish Peatland Conservation Council will act as the “Compost Doctor” for the day and will be on hand to answer questions on home composting in a cone or a heap, setting up a wormery, making leaf mould and she will also give an introduction to wildlife gardening.
Suzanne Tinney, Waste Awareness Officer with Donegal County Council will also be on hand to help with questions and to deal with other waste management or recycling queries.
Home compost units are available from Donegal County Council at a subsidised rate of €13 and are in stock in all Donegal County Council’s Public Service Centres.
Please drop in between 1pm and 4pm to the Courtyard Lifestyle Centre Ltd, Newtowncunningham and find out about how to reduce your household waste by up to 1/3.
Donegal County Council would like to thank Mr. Gareth Austin, Courtyard Lifestyle Centre Ltd, Newtowncunningham for hosting and helping to promote this event. |
